This is a 525i wagon kept in great condition.
It takes up to five seconds once I move the lever to shift into reverse.
Recently, twice in the space of three months, I was driving on the freeway at 50 mph and the transmission went into the equivalent of neutral. I was able to shift back into gear.
Last week, when driving at 3500 RPMs, it threw a TRANS Program error and went into what I assume was third gear and stayed there. AFter turning off the engine I was able to restart and it worked normally. I've driven gingerly since then.
I saw an entry somewhere that taking out the fuses for the transmission would reset it. I did that, but don't know if it helped. No problems since, but still slow to shift into reverse.
I tried to read error codes by hitting the accelerator pedal five times in five seconds, but that did nothing.
The trans fluid was checked several months ago and said to be OK.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
