1991 Volvo 240 Backfire

When the engine is warm, the car will backfire when starting. Nothing more. I used a fuel injector cleaner, Chevron Techron to no avail. What is the cause and how may I fix this? Backfire is through the exhaust.

You have a timing issue. If the timing is off, it will backfire out the intake or exhaust. How old is the timing belt.

Timing belt was replaced less than 10,000 ago.

I would still check it for being in time.

Start with a compression test.
