My '91 jetta malfunctioned last week when I was on the freeway. I pushed the clutch pedal in and it didnt de-press. I put my foot on it again then shifted and came back, after that my car couldnt go faster than 50 and when I stopped the car it would not shift into gear. What could the problem possibly be?

It sounds as if the clutch has failed, do you still have good pedal pressure?

If you have good pedal pressure the hydraulics will be ok, I feel it is in the clutch itself, if you get a mechanic to do a test drive they will be able to confirm this.

I do feel that the clutch assembly has failed, if this is the original clutch unit you have done very well with it, but now it is time for a new clutch, contact a few work shops and get a few quotes, get the best price.

Can't really help you there, as I am in Australia, I am not that sure who you have there, I have seen a business called parts train, I do check them out for some prices on parts for other customers at 2cp, have a look here.
