My friend has a 91 Toyota mr2 that has a idle problem and jerks a lil while shifting. At idle it sounds normal then bogs down for just a second or 2. While shifting it seems as if it's slightly loosing power then regaining.what could this be?

Check for vacuum leaks on the engine and check the idle air control valve (IAC). The IAC is responsible for maintaining the engine idle speed.
