when you start off fast from a stop lite the transmission wont shift until you let off on the gas. but if you start off slow the transmission shifts fine.

Sounds like the transmission is slipping-How's the fluid level and condition if okay bring it in and have it pressure tested to find out more what's going on

Check the detent cable.
