my 1991 Holden Commodore vn v6 is playing up... engine erratically breaking down/running rough/ clouds of unburnt black exhaust when it does ..not all the time...suspect ignition problem..coil bank ...sensor...wiring...has had new computer a few yrs ago.

Running too rich, check.vacuum line at feul pressure regulator if any gas is present, replace it, also O 2 sensors are beyond replacement age!

often faulty coil packs and leads on these will cause this, but also check what merlin has suggested as well.
