what would cause my oil pressure to go as high as it can on the gauge?

my oil pressure gauge is maxed out, i dont know if it is supposed to be there or if there is something i can do to fix it

First, it could be a bad sending unit. However, you need to check it to be sure. rent a mechanical gauge from a parts store and check it. Let me know how high it is. There is a regulator built into the pump and although it is rare, they can go bad.
