what causes excessively high rpm on acelleration and driving

Starting from stop with average acceleration rpr runs 5-6, cruising at 45 rpm runs 2.5 - 3.
This is much higher then it has been in the past

It sounds like the transmission is slipping. Check to make sure the trans fluid is clean and full. Also, let me know if the check engine light has come on.
