91 chevy beretta w/automatic--works ok for approx 30 mins then it locks up to the engine. locks up in high gear and will not down shift.

Not sure if you will get any codes in these transmissions, but a scan will be a good place to start, also a line pressure test will also give a tech a good indication of any internal problem, start here.

This car has a 125 transmission and what happens is the torque converter clutch solenoid sticks causing the torque converter not to disengage from engine. If you look down on top of transmission you will see a white Plug with about 4 wires in it. Disconnect plug and your problem will go away. You can either leave it unplugged and lose your Tcc lock up or you can replace the solenoid.
