So every time I pass the key to turn on the car I hear the fuel pump turn on but never turn off. Sounds like gas splashing inside the tank along with loud noise. From what I been told if the fuel pump relay is not working right either the fuel pump wont turn on or it will stay on and not turn off. Can this be true?

Hello,

The fuel pump relay is under the hood int he PDC. Here is a guide to help you test it and the location in the diagrams below.

No it stops once its off. But if I pass the key with the engine off the pump turns on makes loud noise and you can hear gas splashing.

You most likely need a fuel pump.

If the fuel pump is turning on the relay is doing its job. Sounds like u will need to drop the tank. Remove the sending unit and replace the pump. Install a new one using all the hoses that come with the part. Ty for using 2carpros and pl try to donate.

I am wondering if the 1991 cadillac brougham d elegance has an inertia swith or a fuel pump cutoff switch. If so could you please tell me where it is located. I believe it would be located near the trunk area. Thanks for your help.

There is no inertia (fuel shut-off) switch on your vehicle. Have you inspected your fuel pump fuse and fuel pump relay?

Yes I have I just replaced the pump and fixed itbut now my gas gauge does not work. I was just wonderign if there is a way to reset the fuel gauge or maybe the floater might be stuck. I will try unplugging the terminals in the battery if this will do it. If you have any other suggestiongs please help.
Thanks

Was the guage working prior to the pump replacement? Perhaps you knocked or left something loose by accident at or around the fuel tank?

I don't know where the fuel pump is located. I don't know where the relay switch is located. I need to know where all three fuse boxes are located.

So when you say the gauge isn't working, you do mean that the gauge is indicating Empty at all times, correct? Or is it just inaccurate? Have you inspected the gauges fuse? The only thing controlling the gauge is the wiring, the fuse for the gauges and then the fuel sending unit. So I'm thinking it has something to do with the sending unit since you did some repairs in that area.
