Shuts off when you release key form start position

Vehicle starts when key is engaged in start position but shuts off when key springs back. No power to coil when key is in run position. will run if jumped from coil to positive battery. Help!

I looked at a diagram for a 5.0L engine, and from what I can tell, a good suspect is a failed EEC relay. It is bypassed by the ignition switch during cranking.
