cv axle boots

how do i both outer cv axle boots on a 1991 audi 100 5 clyinder? Is it neccessary to take off the steering knuckle?

Most of the steering components need to be removed. The ball joints, need to come apart to drop the hub assembly out of the way so the axle can come out. Not a fun or easy job. Make sure to have a good repair manual with you for reference.
