1990 Volvo 740 Stalling?

My 740GLE 2.3 16Valve has started hesitating as I try to accelerate. At one point the car's engine turned off. The issue only happens when I try to accelerate. Sometimes when it happens the car does not immediately accelerate. It has felt like it powers up then loses power so that it doesn't really go.

I have filled the car up twice now since I bought it. The first time it went really low. Right now it shows a little over a 1/4 tank. The car is fuel injected.

In a situation like this, where you don't know the vehicles history, I'd start with all of the tuneup parts first. Spark plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor and all other tuneup parts should be inspected thoroughly, if not replaced
