I had a diagnostic done recently because the car, which is generally in very good condition, has suddenly started running very rough and sputtering when at idling. The diagnostic from Firestone concluded that the cam positioning sensor is bad, but that it needs new spark plugs also.
I cannot afford the $900 quotes price for replacing the sensor. Can you explain in basic terms how to dissemble and install the cam sensor if I were doing it myself?
If this requires more qualified mechanics then I will be glad to make a donation

I'd want to check wiring circuits for cam sensor first, three wires, ref voltage--ground--signal. Was there a code for sensor,41? The info I looked at was olds 98 regency 3.8L engine.

To remove, our info says to remove negative battery cable.
Remove water pump pulley bolts.
Remove serpentine belt.
take sensor wiring connector loose.
Remove bolt holding sensor.
Twist--turn sensor to remove.
The installation is opposite if removal.

Hello, I am Danny
Dealership list it as $79.50. Your local auto parts stores would be less expensive. Hope this helps and thanks for using 2Carpros.
