If you have manual locks, there is nothing more than a linkage rod that goes from the button to the lock. If it has power locks, there is an actuator that is attached to the linkage which operates the lock. Either way, you need to remove the inner door panel to check for damage, a disconnected linkage rod or a broken one. The panel is a little tougher to remove with the door being closed, but it can be done.
