speakers quit working

I have a 1990 Lincoln Towncar and recently bought an amplifier for my speakers and hooked it up and my speakers quit working. what could the problem be? i have tried almost everything and they are brand new speakers.

are there fuses with this unit?? it needs heavy current and if you hooked it up to small fuses, they may have failed
