i replaced my coolant sensor on 1990 gmc 1500 and now the temp gauge max out and the check engine is on.

what is the code for the light??

Correction it was the Coolant Temp Sender. it controls my gauge. the coolant level is full and I have not yet gotten it tested for a light code. After i replaced the Sender unit I drove it for about 2 miles when the temp gauge maxed out and the light came on. Could it be my thermostat or could the new sending unit be faulty?
