EXHAUST MANIFOLD
Remove air cleaner and duct assembly. Remove EGR tube from exhaust manifold. Disconnect
oxygen sensor. Remove heater hoses attached to valve cover. Disconnect inlet pipe from
exhaust manifold.

Remove exhaust manifold mounting bolts and manifold. To install, position exhaust manifold
on cylinder head and tighten bolts in 2 steps in sequence. See Fig. 3. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure.
UPPER & LOWER INTAKE MANIFOLDS
Removal
Disconnect negative battery cable. Drain coolant. Release fuel pressure. See FUEL
PRESSURE RELEASE in this article. Mark and disconnect electrical wiring, vacuum lines
and vacuum fittings from upper intake manifold. Remove throttle linkage shield. Remove
throttle, cruise control and kickdown linkages.

Remove air intake hose and crankcase vent hose. Disconnect PCV hose from underside of
upper intake manifold. Disconnect coolant bypass hose at lower intake manifold. Disconnect
EGR tube from EGR valve.

Disconnect fuel supply lines. See Fig. 1. Remove upper intake manifold bolts. Remove upper
intake manifold and throttle body assembly. Remove lower intake manifold bolts, manifold and
gasket.

Installation
Clean gasket mating surfaces. Clean and oil bolt threads. Install new gasket. Position lower
intake manifold to cylinder head and install bolts finger tight.

Tighten bolts in sequence to specification See Fig. 2. To complete installation, reverse removal
procedure. Fill and bleed air from cooling system. See COOLING SYSTEM PURGE in this
article.
