Could be a valve cover gasket, timing chain gasket, oil pan gasket, head gasket, leaking filter gasket. Is it smoking upon startup?

The puff of smoke at startup could be valve seals. Check compression. If there is more than a 15% variance between high and low, put a little sewing machine oil (1 tablespoon) into the cylinder with the low compression and try again. If the compression pops up, you have bad rings.
