1990 Ford F-250 has been having a little trouble going into gear. Yesterday noticed leakage from other the rear differential. Also the rear differential appears to be wet (it's glistening). Truck seems to stay in gear and drives well, but wondering what does this leakage indicate? What are the common causes and how big a deal to fix?

where is it leaking front of diff , back or sides. make a difference . if it's fron t the driveshaft has to come out remove the pinion relace the seal see if there is damage to pinion like a groove in it as the tells you which to use a a new sleeve as well. then reinstall pinion and reset preload on bearing so you don't burn it up and it fails in a short time.
