Have a 1990 custom bronco full size. We try to start it up but kills battery we charge battery it tries to turn over but thn it kills battery again. We jump start it disconnected the battery to see if alternator. It worked but we also hear whistle coming from alternator

taking off battery cable is a check for nothing. the alternator needs 12 volts to work. taking the battery off does nothing.

i would have the battery load tested and have the starter draw test done
