If you have the orange rectangular power button you might just have a defective switch. If the display also goes off there could be an intermittent connection or loose fuse for either the switched power circuit from the ignition switch or for the memory circuit for the station presets and clock. If the display goes out but you can hear a little static yet in the speakers there are some internal parts that can fail and cause that. These radios are also well-known for very hard to find intermittent connections. I have one on the bench right now that is giving me a hard time.
