HI, I Bought my car almost 3 yrs ago and I have had problem after problem with it and I have fixed it every time. I had a fuel injector problem, fuel pump, electrical problem with the coils and the EMC Multiple times, T- stat, serpentine belt been replaced. The blower moter and also had the a/c converted over. It also sat for 3 months because It had died and could not figure on the problem because it would run when the engine was cold but as soon as it got hot it would shut off and would not start. Went through hell, but it is running now it was the injectors. And now after dealing with all of that, I noticed a couple of days ago that it was making a wierd scrapping-clincking sound and some times a squeal every once in awhile when push on the accelerator and we thought it was weather related because it started to do this when it has been cooler than usual and engine was cold and the scrapping-clincking sound is sometimes constant for awhile and then it stops and then it contiues for awhile and even when I come to a complete stop it does it. But I have checked my serpentine belt and I also took it to advanced discount auto store and I thought it was the serpentine belt and he checked it and he told me the sound was coming from the top of the engine under the metal thing that sits on top of the engine he felt the top of it and you could feel it when it would scrap-click. And he told me that it was either a vaulve scrapping or a bad bearing and that he would re-build the whole engine. I would just like to know what this sound is and if my car will make it another month untill I can either get another one or fix it? Please let me know somthing I apperciate it. Nicole

HOW 'BOUT A PIC OF THE METAL THING YOU ARE REFERRING TO---USE A EZ TO SEE POINTER TO POINT AT WHERE IT IS THE LOUDEST---MAYBE SOME CLOSE PICS AND SOME FURTHER BACK

HERE'S ANOTHER THING TO TRY---THIS MIGHT MAYBE FIND A EZ TO FIX PROBLEM LIKE AN IDLER PULLEY OR BAD BELT TENSIONER

THIS IS SIMPLE TO DO, IF YOU CAN'T FIND HELP I MIGHT SUGGEST SOME CHEAP ASSISTANCE TO TEST THIS

REMOVE THE SERPENTINE BELT WHEN IT'S ACTING UP

RUN THE ENGINE FOR LIKE A MINUTE AT A TIME---WE DON'T WANT TO OVERHEAT IT OR RUN THE BATTERY WAY DOWN ETC

ALL WE WANT TO KNOW IS---IS IT STILL MAKING THE RACKET?--OR DID IT STOP?

IF IT STOPPED MOST LIKELY IT IS A PULLEY/ BEARINGS TO A PULLEY/ OR A BAD A/C COMPRESSOR OR ANY OTHER COMPONENT THAT IS PULLEY DRIVEN

THIS WOULD BE MY 1ST TEST---ACCESSORY OR INTERNAL ENGINE?

YOUR TURN

Well I took it to a place where I have gotten my car fixed before and they looked at it and they took a stethascope tool, and it's my alternator and now I'm in the process right now fixing it. But they had told me that they never seen an alternator to act like it did. And stupid advance didn't hook anything to my charging system to check and make sure it could have just been my alternator they told me that it is Internal. And He would rebuild the whole engine and had me buy some oil sablizer band name lucus and said this could help, will that hurt my car? Please let me know thanks, nicole

Well I have a friend and she knew someone that knew how to change an alternator and I had to call around to get it, because I guess there not keeping a part for an older car like mine in stock anymore. But he took the old one off and then he picked up the new one cost me $100 w/lifetime waranty. But it came off smoothly and went on just the same. And if I would have let the shop do it, it would have costed me $282.00 maybe less, because I had them quote me. I wouldn't have been able to have it fixed by the shop because I knew it would have cost me an arm and a leg, but I took it them and they knew what it was and told me exactally what was wrong and you were right it would have cost alot of money for them to do it. I have gone through alot of cars, my first car was a 87' chrysler lebaron and it was a convertable and it was red, the top was cloth and needed to be changed and it had no a/c or heat. And I loved it with the top down, untill it got cold lol. But I was stupid and didn't add oil to it or keep an eye on it and on my way home from work I was almost home and it started to smoke, and I blew the rings in the engine. My secound car was a green 95' ford mustang hatchback, it was nice and it was only a 4 clyinder and you could smell fuel when you filled it up to all the way up and the gas gage was off ( ran out of gas and didn't know it) but I got in to a small accident (maybe was going 5mph) and the air bag sensors are in the front and I hit an extera in the bumper and left a little paint but I got air bag burns from my wrist to my elbows on my inner arm. I also had a mazda 626, nice car but was a lemon. I think the head gasket had been pervously blown because within maybe 6 months to a year it started to over heat and it was leaking antifreeze and I had to get another car. And someone who wanted it and thought he could fix it, told us that we had blown the head on it and the engine was junk, so then I got this one and I have had it for almost 3 yrs. But I appreciate all of your advice it was most helpful and I will also keep up the maintence on it and I am looking into another car so I don't run this one into the ground like my others and thanks again and I 'll be in touch if I need your help again. I apprecite it. Nicole
