My auto quit heating, there is no heat coming from the heater, I replaced the thermostat, Filled with coolant, and can drive 12-15 miles and no heat. The heater hoses are very hot but the bottom half of the radiator is cold. The hoses are hot, with the cap off the water drops as soon as the thermostat opens the water appears to be circulating past the open cap, is there a system to shut off the water to the heater core? The engine is a 4.9 v8

Donald,

If both heater core hoses are hot, then the heater core is working. If there is no heat and the core is getting hot, then you need to check what is called the blend air door. It is located near the heater core and opens and closes based on what temp you want. If it is stuck in the cold position, you will not get heat.
