Mileage and Check engine light

1990 buick century custom (130,000km) 6cyl. I get an intermittent check engine light stays on for a minute or so for about 5min total on an avg 1hr drive which results in code 44 lean exhaust, what should I be checking? This has been on and off for last yr. In the last 2months or so my mileage has dropped 2-3mpg. Any help would be appreciated.

Check for a vacuum leak, like maybe a hose off or punctured Also check for a blocked fuel filter as it might not be getting the right amount of fuel and check the air duct going to the throttle plate for holes or cracks. Also some of the pcv valve connections have plastic on top of the throttle plate and it cracks there and needs replacing.
