I have a 1990 Acura Legend 4 dr. Automatic,

Recently my car wont go more than 40 mphs or go into reverse. So I put in a brand new transmission, solenoid switches.

Now the car goes into reverse, and Its goes up in the mph..... But only while its on the jacks. When I put the car on the ground it still wont go more than 40 mph. Also when putting the tranny back together i noticed two wires dangling.

Where are the wires coming from?
Check for trouble codes.
Did you check if it is the engine that is causing the probem of not going up in speed?
Check the exhaust system for clogging.

The wires are coming from the transmission . I was told that the are just the reverse/backing up lights.

I didnt know that the exhaust system could keep me from shifting gears. How do I test to see if it is the exhaust system?

Also how do i check for trouble codes?

No, the reverse light wires are not on a separate line. They are in the park position switch for automatic transmission and I believe these wires are for something else.

When engine losses power, shifting would be affected. A clogged exhaust system can affect engine performance.

For checking trouble codes, refer to the link below.

For checking of exhaust clogging, you would have to disconnect the system to check and test the exhaust flow. Prior to removal, get an assistance to blip the accelerator a few times while you check the exhaust flow from rear. If exhaust flow does not seem very strong at higher rpms, that could mean restriction.
