My information center reads "code-unit" What does that mean?

Welcome to 2CarPros. That is BMW speak for defect code 14. It means there is a failure in the instrument cluster or the ECM. The usual cause is a bad or unplugged coding plug. To test it you press the 1 and 100 buttons at the same time with the ignition on. For a US model the display should read: 7 07 TYP
If the display reads PPPP, this means that the module cannot read the coding plug information.
This could mean that the coding plug is defective or possibly not fully plugged in.
