My 1989 Oldsmobile 98 regency is having an idle issue, here are the details.
1. When car is in park & neutral the idle is extremely high
2. When driving, I pretty much have to keep the brakes applied to maintain correct speed.
3. When braking, there is a second of over pressure applied to the brakes and then it returns to normal braking power.
This all started at once so I assume these problems can be related to a single Soucre but I am clueless as to how to find and fix the problem. I have always owned older carbed motors and can disassemble and reassemble blindfolded but I am fuel injected illiterate LOL please help!

Not saying this is the problem but try checking the throttle body assembly. The throttle cable may be sticking a little. Put some w-d 40 on the linkages and cable to make sure it is free. Sometimes a little carbon can get in the throttle body so you might want to use some throttle body cleaner. What I have mentioned might not stop the problem if there is something else wrong with it but it is a good place to start. Since you and I have come from the old school I would try the simplier things to see if that is where the problem is.
