1989 Nissan 300ZX 5-speed manual transmission shifter problem

The car will shift into and drive in all gears just fine with no problems. .....Except reverse.
It Will not shift into reverse car running or not. I've tried all combinations of trying to get it to shift into Reverse, it just won't do it.
What would make it not shift into reverse?

Does the shifter move into the reverse position and no reverse is selected or is it locked and will not move to that selection. If it will not move, probably a shifter problem with the reverse lock out
