1989 Nissan 240SX 240sx won't idle

I just bought a 1989 240sx. Car will turn overit and start but will not idle by its self. I have to feather the gas to keep it running. It will drive down the road fine as long as I keep it above 1500 rpms. I have no idea where to look this sis my first nissan so not to savy w the car. Any help would be appreciated. They guy I bought it from said it was the timing.

check fuel pressure timing is 13-17 degrees btdc also check for a vacuum leak
