Did any metal shavings get into the valve body? Was the TCM checked?

Actually I dont know, its a friend...he tells me the trans worked fine prior to the converter stripping out...he had the trans in and out 3 times because the converter seal kept leaking..he finally stopped the leak but now has this issue..he did not tear the trans down-he just removed the pump and re-installed it....Is this trans completely computer controlled? If so do I have to have special equipment to run a self test on an 89 model? Thanks for your input!

The trans isn't completely computer controled. I have to be honest. I think metal shavings have gotten into places they shouldn't be. If it stripped, metal has gotten into the trans.
