If I have unhooked the carb and the exhaust pipe from the manifold. Can I not just remove the valves and pushrods, then unbolt the head and pull the head and both manifolds out together to replace the manifold gaskets then the head gasket?

SORTA...................like that

YOU MUST KEEP YOUR PARTS EXACTLY IN THE SAME PLACE THEY CAME FROM

I USE CARDBOARD BOXES

I MEAN, EVERY BOLT.....EVERY ROCKER ARM (EVEN LEFT SIDE AND RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROCKERS).....PUSH RODS (EVEN UP IS UP AND DOWN IS DOWN)

WE DO THIS SO THAT WHEN IT IS REASSEMBLED, THE WEAR FROM ONE MATING SURFACE WILL MESH WITH IT'S MATE..........THINGS WORK BETTER THAT WAY

REMOVE ALL ACCESSORIES ON THE HEAD......VALVE COVER....ROCKERS....PUSH RODS....HEAD BOLTS

A REPAIR MANUAL WOULD BE YOUR BEST FRIEND...IF YOU ACTUALLY USED IT STEP BY STEP, NOT JUST LOOKING AT THE PICTURES.......TORQUE SPEC.....BOLT TIGHTENING SEQUENCES AND SO MUCH MORE!

NOW.....IT'S OFF

OFF TO THE MACHINE SHOP.......CRACK TESTING.....WARPAGE TESTING....RE-SURFACING.....................................HECK, IT'S ALL APART AT THE MACHINE SHOP.....A FEW EXTRA $$$ AND THEY WILL REBUILD IT!

YOUR TURN
