am i jumping my truck wrong or am i leaving it running after for way too short a time?

I just got a new alternator and battery, but before i put the new alternator in, i ran the battery almost dead. I got a jump today and i let the truck run for about 5 minutes, then later when i tried to start it again the battery acted like it was dead

Yup! not enough time-try 1/2 hr my time-if it continues double check alternator and battery condition
