1989 Gmc S15 Bought Truck 3 Weeks Ago Just Started Driving Does 5th Gear Put

I bought the truck 3 Weeks ago I just started driving it and it does not like 5th gear, I can put it to the floor and it don't even bring the rpms up but if I'm on flat land it will usually hold a steady speed but first hill it drops from 60 to 45 but then I can drop it down to 4th and it don't seem to have any problems but when I get to 5th & I need to figure out why my speedometer works when it wants to ..??

i would start with fuel pressure check and back pressure test for the cat converter.
