Loose shifter

I literally have no idea what I am doing. I got access to the shifter box, but unfortunately I cannot access the internals while inside my car. I had to lift my car but I still do not know how to fix my problem. I was told that I should replace the bushings, but I do not know if that is the issue. There is a plastic sort of bearing that surrounds the ball pivot and that is torn. Does anyone know how to (1) gain access to the internals, and (2) the number for the part so I can order it? I will upload a picture as soon as I can get one. Thanks.

To gain access to the linkage, you need to do it from under the vehicle. Make sure it is safely lifted with jack stands supporting the vehicle weight. Once under the vehicle, you will find retainers for the linkage. Take it apart to access what you need. As far as a part number, take the old part with you to the dealer.

Did you fix the problem? I have an 1989 GT. Gear shift is extremely loose.
