IMMA JEEP CJ KINDA GUY

I GENERALLY TAKE PICS FOR THE JEEP FELLERS

GOTTA FRIEND WHO CAME OVER NEEDED THE IGNITION SWITCH CHANGED IN HIS 1988 F-150. WHAT WAS NEAT ABOUT IT, IS IT'S ALMOST IDENTICAL TO A JEEP CJ SET-UP. THE CJ SWITCH IS EVER SO SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT!

SO, WHILE AGO I CHANGED IT FOR HIM AND TOOK PICS, TO SHARE WITH JEEP GUYS.

IF YOURS IS LIKE THIS, THIS IS WHAT I JUST DID 2 HOURS AGO! (I DON'T KNOW YOURS) I DO THIS AS A HOBBY, AND I AM VERY MECHANICAL WITH OLDER STUFF, WORK ON MINE, FAMILY AND FRIENDS VEHICLES (NECESSITY!).I AM NOT A PAID MECHANIC

OK, I SNATCHED THE ****S OFF OF THE INSTRUMENTS, LEFT OF THE STEERING WHEEL (VIA, CLIPS UNDER THE ****S)

THE TRIM JUST POPPED OFF ON EITHER SIDE OF THE COLUMN

THERE WAS A ACCESS PANEL UNDER THE COLUMN, IT HAD QUICK RELEASE ****S, AND A REMOVED IT

I COULDA JUST REACHED UP IN THERE AND FELT MY WAY AROUND, AND CHANGED IT LIKE I DO ON JEEPS

BUT.I WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO TAKE THE PICS I WANTED.

SO I REMOVED THE 2 BOLTS BEHIND THE DASH, THAT HOLD THE STEERING COLUMN UP (THEY'RE ON A SILVER BRACKET ON THE BOTTOM SIDE OF THE COLUMN)

THE COLUMN DROPPED. GUESSING 6 INCHES

I UNPLUGGED THE WIRES--THE CONNECTOR PULLED APART REALLY EZ

WITH A "STUBBY" 7/16 WRENCH (VERY HANDY FOR THIS JOB!) I REMOVED THE 2 NUTS WHICH HELD IT DOWN ON THE STUDS, AGAINST THE COLUMN

I TOOK 3 PICS AROUND THESE STEPS!

WAH-LAH. IT WAS OFF!

INSTALL IS REVERSE

INSURE THE "ACTUATING ROD" IS HOOKED IN THE SMALL HOLE/ SMALL POCKET ON THE BOTTOM SIDE OF THE SLIDE, OF THE IGNITION SWITCH

THE ONLY THING THAT REQUIRED PATIENCE, WAS "CALIBRATING" THE SLIDE ON THE IGNITION SWITCH TO THE KEY SWITCH

LEAVING THE MOUNTING NUTS SLIGHTLY LOOSE

I MOVED THE KEY TO THE "ACCESSORIES POSITION"

I TURNED THE RADIO "ON"

I PUSHED THE IGNITION SWITCH AWAY FROM ME, SORTA TO THE END OF ITS TRAVEL

WHEN THE RADIO CAME ON, I KNEW THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS ALSO IN IT'S "ACCESSORIES POSITION" TOO

THEN I TIGHTENED THE NUTS REAL SNUG

I TESTED ALL OF THE KEY POSITIONS, I WAS NOT SATISFIED WITH THE "START POSITION"

I HAD TO LOOSEN THE NUTS ONCE OR TWICE TO "FINE TUNE", SLIGHTLY MOVE THE SWITCH IN IT'S ELONGATED HOLES---UNTIL I WAS HAPPY WITH "KEY OPERATION"

I TIGHTENED IT PERMANENTLY

BOLTED COLUMN BACK UP

REVERSE IS THE REST OF THE PROCESS

DONE--STICK ME WITH A FORK!----15 MINUTES TOPS!

LET ME KNOW YOUR DEAL

I HOPE THIS HELPS

ALL I REALLY GET OUT OF THIS IS SEEING A SMILE ON YOUR FACE (TEXT)!

DON'T DEPRIVE ME OF THAT!
