1989 Ford Bronco engine will not hold a charge, will start if jumped but dies if lights are turned on

DO YOU KNOW HOW TO TEST BATTERY VOLTAGE WITH TRUCK OFF---AND WITH IT RUNNING, AT THE BATTERY POSTS WITH A VOLTMETER?

The generator is what keeps the battery charged after starting the engine. Use an inexpensive digital voltmeter to back-probe the wires through the plug and tell me what you find when the engine is running, and the wire colors.
