Check for vacuum leaks and check the idle air control valve (IAC)

Usually a vacuum leak. Check for loose, broken, or cracked hoses. Try pinching off the large main vacuum hoses. If the idle speed slows down, pinch off or unplug and block the smaller branch hoses until you narrow it down.
