HITS HARD IN REVERSE,AND ABOUT THE SAME IN DRIVE. GOING DOWN ROAD WONT SHIFT INTO 3RD GEAR. A LITTLE SLOW SHIFTING FROM 1ST TO 2ND AND NO SHIFT INTO DRIVE.

This could be a sign that the transmission is on its last leg. When it starts having really delayed shifts and slippage. You can try to have a shop adjust the bands in the transmission. I believe one is externally adjustable and the other is internal.
