how do i adjust the steering on my 89 chevy suburban using the tierod ?

installed the gear box to the specs and left the new tierod the same length as the old one but now have way more right turn than left turn and believe that i can get that back by shortening the tierod and adjusting the wheel a bit ?

have a pro do this, it will need to be aligned anyhow.
