Would you advise to change head gasket or replace the engine OR? 1989 Chevy Asto Van - V6 w/ 170000 miles and all new suspension almost a year ago.
Intake Crank Shaft Seal & Valve Cover Gasket was changed 7/2012.
Now in 4/2013 original diagnosis (after changing the alternator, battery the starter within three weeks .. Then burnt starter wires, two weeks ago) - was to redo what was done 8 mths earlier.. Since having to add more oil, more often, was to change the front crank shaft seal & valve cover gasket since this is where I mechanic thought was leaking... BUT Because it was noticed the oil on the dipstick was "milky" requested to do a Pressure Block Test, the results came back that the Head Gasket was leaking- Blown (told the dye took along time to change color), then was told could drive it by just keeping oil & coolant full. After picking up the van (oill / coolant full), driving about 5 min, parked for 20 min, driving 5 blocks, idled about 3-5 min, drove about 5 blocks, engine killed, restarted by the hardest, several times making it about a block.. Ended up being towed! White smoke out of exhaust sometimes when just tried to start, which it has few times in driveway But have not drove since being towed four days ago!
