1989 Buick LeSabre. 3.8 Engine, about 211,000 miles. Idles a bit rough and sputters although you can still drive it. Upon aceleration she seems like she might stop running, but wil continue to run for now. Acceleration doesn't get the sputtering to stop and it doesn't accelarate well when it is sputtering. although on the highway once you get it up to the speed you want, she drives great. Occasionally when you put her in gear the engine dies, but she restarts fine. Wouldn't start at all until we put on a used coil pack and a used mass air flow. Have also replaced a few fuel lines due to rust. Is it fuel pressure or fuel related... or could it be the computer?? Please help!

check the fuel pressure first it should be aminimum of 40p.si. clean teh throttle plate with choke cleaner on both sides then scan the engine to see if there are any codes. it may also be a crank sensor and cam sensor but those need to be checked by ohms as they can be high and not letting it run right.

the lower intake gaskets leak on these engines.... that causes oil, and coolant to mix into the cylinders, and will cause this problem... although a clogged fuel filter will also cause it... you had the fuel lines replaced, if it was done by a reputable garage, then they also changed the filter which leads us back to the lower intake gaskets...
