Clutch Cable, Alternator, or both

I just had an alternator replaced on my 88 toyota truck. It drove fine the first day. The next day, I started the car and it would not go into any gear. It only went into gear when the car was not running. Is it the clutch cable or is this something that I need to take back and may be connected to the alternator. Otherwise, the car runs great. Please help me.

Nope, this isn't related to the generator. If there's a hydraulic clutch, check the fluid level in the reservoir. A cable could be broken or the casing might have slipped in its adjustment bracket. Some vehicles with a cable use an automatically-adjusting cable with a plastic quarter-round toothed lever. It drops down onto the clutch pedal after you press the pedal an inch or two. In cold weather that lever can move slowly when the grease gets gummed up. To see if that's the problem, just push the pedal down two inches, then hold it there for a few seconds before pushing it the rest of the way. If that works, try lubricating the pivot with a spray lubricant.

Another clue is whether it can be shifted into the other gears while you're driving. If you can, the clutch is working. That leaves the first gear synchro. They don't generally fail that quickly. It's more common to have trouble shifting into first gear once a week, then once a day, and it gradually gets worse.
