got a 1988 toyota pickup

i keep bowing alternators the battery light comes on and i loose my heat and fuel gauge along with my turnsignals i cant find a blown fuse when it happens its the 2.4 carb. engine manual trans.

How long dose it take befor the alternator fails?

The alternator itself will not be the problem, i feel that there is a short to earth in the charging system, check charging system as described in pic for any short to ground, start here.
