My oldsmobile 88 3.8 is having a problem with the temp moniter. I will be driving the car and it gets to 1/4 of 220 I would stop at a light then the gauge would goto 220 and start to overheat. What could be causing this to happen. Once I reaches 220 the car would die out. Please help.

You have a 2 speed fan system and you may have a problem with low speed. Low speed kicks on at 208 and high speed at 226 so it's save up to that temp anyway. Test the fan motor to make sure that is good.
