The whole time I'm driving I smell gas when I stop and park.

i have 1988 cherokee 4x4 4.0 liter. When I drive it seems to sputter a lot now while I drive then when I speed up it stops for a little then start right back is it a fuel problem?

If the check engine light is on, have the computer scanned for trouble codes. Also, check the fuel pump pressure to make sure it is within spec. Check for vacuum leaks too.
