1988 Ford ranger 2.9 fuel injected
Began running badly, smoking, engine knock. Found gas dripping through the exhaust at connection with the exhaust manifold. Had someone else try and start it while I watched to confirm. At that time also saw gas pouring from the muffler. Having it towed tomorrow. Have heard everything from stuck injectors to bad sensors. One person thought a blowed head gasket, but this is gas not water. What could this be?

Find the fuel pressure regulator disconnect the vacuum hose do you see gas in it? let me know-possibilites could be an injector/s stuck open or the FPR ruptured
