I have put 2 different (brand new) clutch kits including a new flywheel. I also installed a jegs complete quadrant kit and I have to tighten the cable so tight to get it to release it feels like the cable should break. I have been a mechanic all my life and I know there should be clutch free travel and this has me at my witts end what could be wrong?

The clutch on this is self adjusting check to see if the adjuster on pedal is worn out or bushings etc. See pic. Also check for stuff like bent forks etc due to age.
