What is the difference between 1988 Ford Bronco XLT Column Shift, (AT), C6, tilt and Column Shift, (AT), AOD, tilt.

The shifter is the same in the column. The linkage from there is different.

so how do i find out what steering column i need. i have no idea what the differance is. the shifter is on the steering column. what is C6 and AOD

Those are two different types of transmissions. Identify which one you have and then you'll know which linkage configeration you will need.
