I have a 1988 Dodge Ram 150 318 A998 automatic. My torque converter locks around 40-45 mph but then kicks in and out. I've read that the 1988 had a non-electric lockup. What could be causing this?

That is correct, it isn't electric. The converter must be worn and need replaced.

I've been looking at auto part stores websites. Nobody has a converter for the A998. They only have them for the A727 and A904. Is the A998 the same as the A904
